Kayak is known as one of the largest travel based sites to exist allowing customers to input their travel dates and location and find multiple options from every single airline offering those flights. You can compare dates, search multiple airports in the same results page and choose flexible dates” as well. Kayak is my go to for my flight needs. They also offer searching for hotels, cars, cruises and packages. It’s laid out in an easy, user-friendly way so anyone can hop on start planning either their next dream vacation or that dreaded yearly trip to the in-law’s house. So obviously I’m not here to be an advert for Kayak or try and promote them so I’ll just ge to the point already. Social media! What you all have been waiting for, anxiously awaiting on the edge of your seat as I discuss Kayak’s presence on social media. What about their social media am I going to focus on, you ask? First, engagement. Their Twitter reigns with over 80k followers who can see constant posting by Kayak with blog posts about places to travel, cheap hotels and amazing sites. Their tone even takes on a friendly, casual, conversation like tone that seems like you’re listening to a real person speak and not a robot. New content is constantly be posted and is relevant, as well. Below is a few snapshots taken from their Twitter sharing their own content.
One of my favorite things about Kayak and the way they engage with their customers is how they even have quizzes like the one posted about in that last Twitter post. I’m the kind of person who likes taking ridiculous quizzes that tell me what Starbucks drink I am or what dog breed I was in another life. These kind of quizzes do catch people’s eye and makes them want to get onto the website and take it. Now that they’re there, they wander to the other aspects to the site and badabing, badaboom, a flight to Uruguay is booked.
Along with their own, original content, they engage directly with their customers by replying to their Tweets with real answers from real people. Whether it’s redirecting where to submit their complaints or answer simple questions, their team is ready to help.
Next, compelling content. And oh boy, their Instagram sure is compelling. I have the travel bug and Kayak’s Instagram isn’t helping. While they don’t have the same engagement as their Twitter and don’t seem to be on top of it, it’s great content and I love to just look at it. Being a website that turns you into your own travel agent, their Instagram revolves around posting breathtaking photos from around the world showing what you can see if you go there. From the Northern Lights to Jamaica, all their content is posted from other travelers. They do also post original content highlighting the features of Kayak. Posted below are some of their reposted photos that just make my jaw drop.
This next photos is just a quick insert to show Kayak’s sense of relatable humor that shows they understand their audience and knows what they like. I mean come on, pay bills, feed cat, avoid pumpkin spiced lattes, plan Christmas vacation…..it’s like they know my life. Except for Christmas vacation because I’m a broke college student and the most elaborate vacation I’ll be taking this year is traveling with my cat to my parent’s house in Orange County. But a girl can dream! And Kayak knows how to help me do that! Not going to lie, I do have multiple dream vacations saved on Kayak from flights to hotels that I wish I could just go ahead and book now.
So what’s up with their Facebook, you ask? Well, I’ll tell you. With their largest following at 1.3 million followers, they pretty much seem to combine their Instagram and Twitter with blog posts alongside their funny pictures like the one posted above. They do have a lack of engagement but the compelling content is strong so I’ll give them that one. My favorite part about all their social media is that they are consistent on each platform by posting similar types of content throughout and constantly posting throughout the day, almost every day so their following doesn’t lose interest.
Overall, Kayak gets two thumbs up from me for posting compelling, interesting content and engagement with their customers. The result that comes out from their content is a girl sitting on her computer itching to have a white Christmas with family in Ohio or go back to Costa Rica and meet up with my friends in Tamarindo.
Catch ya on the flip side!
