There's something about having a chronic illness that makes getting something small like a cold bittersweet. We survive so much pain and hurting in our life that we actually get kind of annoyed when something like a cold knocks us down. Right now, I'm not allowed to go into work because I can get others sick. This basically means I have a lot of down time waiting for myself to recover this annoyance.

When it comes to being sick, I don't really get colds that often. But when I do get sick, it hits me hard to do other health issues I have including asthma. Because of that, I have to continuously find methods that work to overcome it. I put together some of my favorite remedies, most of which are homeopathic because I'm not a fan of putting all the chemicals in my body if I can avoid it.

I absolutely love my tea and have a pretty good variety depending on what I need it for. But I recently picked up the Breathe Deep Tea by Yogi to help my lungs, chest and nasal cavity. So far, I can feel my chest opening up which for me, is so crucial with my asthma. Breathe Deep® Tea uses a base of Licorice and Thyme along with a combination of Eucalyptus and warming spices Cinnamon, Cardamom and Ginger to create a spicy-sweet flavor and relieve some of your respiratory issues.

As a homeopathic alternative to other cold medicines, ColdCalm helps relieve sneezing, runny nose (me AF right now), nasal congestion and minor sore throat. And even better...it's nondrowsy! That's the last thing I need while trying to stay awake during the day after barely sleeping the night before. I just started taking it today as I actually had enough energy to walk to my local health food store but my roommate swears by it as being the best cold reliever she's ever had!

So we all pretty much know what Vicks Vapor Rub is and how great it is for relieving our sinuses when they're clogged by mucus. Do you know what the primary ingredient is that makes vapor rub work? Menthol! Menthol crystals originate from India and are extracted from mint leaves through a freezing process. The use that I want to talk about is putting a small amount of crystals in hot water and then breathing it in to help clear congested sinuses. You can even make your own vapor rub out of it with natural ingredients. Now, I haven't personally used this one because the store didn't have it BUT a friend highly reccomends it and swears by it!

4. Hot Showers

Now this is something pretty readily available to anyone and FREE. Whether you actually take a shower or just turn it on hot and sit in the bathroom, the moist steam helps thin out the mucus in your nose along with easing the swollen blood vessels in your nasal passagegds. Now while this isn't a permanent solution, it can really help your breathing while you work on your recovery.

This is really all I can think of for now considering I do actually have a terrible cold right now. I'll be over here sipping my tea nonstop and taking my ColdCalm. I will talk to you lovelies later.
